Eye-catching new artwork encourages people to ‘Keep It Frome’

A SPECIALLY designed banner has been unveiled in the Badcox area of Frome, to celebrate the town’s growing circular economy.

The bright yellow banner shows people sharing, repairing, growing, and generally keeping things circulating in the town, instead of buying new things from elsewhere.

The idea of a circular economy is to keep things affordable, help the environment and make the community stronger at the same time.  Each character in the banner is based on a real person or organisation in Frome including a car mechanic, a keen gardener and even Frome Town Football Club, which recently moved to become community owned.

Sue Palmer from Edventure, one of the organisations featured said, “Valuing what we have, repairing and fixing, it’s vital we turn towards keeping stuff going. One thing I’ve noticed is just how much it improves everyone’s wellbeing as well. It’s immeasurably satisfying!’

The campaign is part of a collaboration between LOOP Frome and Glimpse, both based in Frome. LOOP collects food waste from businesses and turns it into valuable ‘living earth’ compost, while Glimpse uses creativity to help people get back in balance with nature.

The story started back in November when 50 volunteers got together to dream up ideas for supporting Frome’s circular organisations. One of those ideas was a beautiful mural to show off what’s already happening. Organisers hope that Frome can build on its excellent start and become a leader in the circular economy across Somerset, and beyond!

Ben Still from LOOP said, “This project has been a labour of love for all involved, and we hope this beautiful artwork represents that. Building a local circular economy will help Frome become more self-sufficient and protect nature at the same time.

“Please share and talk about Keep it Frome to help boost this movement, and support the organisations directly in any way you can!”
